Purchasing
Tips: |
Request colors and forms according
to design needs. Do not purchase too far in advance, especially
in large quantities, due to strict storage requirements and
tendency to lose gloss and color. At purchase, the spathe should
be glossy and firm and the spadix colorful. The lower 3/4 should
feel rough due to open flowers. |
|
Conditioning: |
Recut underwater - Preservative
Some designers soak heads in water at room temperature and then
mist and cover them with a sheet of plastic, which may be beneficial,
especially in hot, dry areas. Dipping flowers in fruit waxes
can also help reduce water loss. One example is a Carnauba wax
emulsion, such as a 3% solution of FMC Wax 819. After dipping,
flower stems can be placed in water until wax dries. |

Ethylene Sensitivity: |
